Preview and export item

The Preview and Export item functionality is designed to allow users to view and interact with exam items as they would appear on the day of the exam. This feature is crucial for ensuring the quality and accuracy of exam items without the need to create and run a full test exam and can be previewed at any point during the item creation workflow process.

1. Realist exam interaction
   • Written items: Previewed exclusively from the Candidate's perspective, providing a clear view of how questions will be presented and answered.
   • OSCE items: Used in Remote OSCE exams, these can be previewed from multiple perspectives, such as Candidate, Examiner, Roleplayer, Marker, Observer, and Admin.
2. Interactive experience
   • The Preview and Export functionality allows users to engage with the item interactively. They can enter responses to questions and utilize the Resource Viewer to access any associated materials.

How to preview and export an item

To preview and export an item:

  Navigate to the Items tab from the top menu bar.

  

• Step 2 of 5

  Click View on the item you want to preview.

  

• Step 3 of 5

  Click Preview & Export > select Export Item Preview from the dropdown menu.

  An item preview popup will appear to allow you to select from a selection of predetermined fields to customize the preview. 

  • Format - You can select from one of the four formats below:

    • HTML/PDF/MS Word - Generate a preview of the item in HTML or download a PDF or mhtml (MS Word) version.
    • Highlight correct answers - if selected, the correct answer will be bolded in the preview.
    • Include blueprint tagging - if selected, the item blueprint section will be displayed at the end of the page. 
    • Show item information as table - if selected, the item information will be displayed in a table depending on the fields filled in (Question title, Question text, Maximum mark). 
    • Include resources - if selected, any resources attached will be displayed after the item. 

    

    • Exam preview - Allows you to view and interact with the item as it would appear on the exam day.
    • Disable answer elimination - Enable/disable the answer elimination in the item preview.

    

  • Format - You can select from one of the three formats below:

    • HTML/PDF - Generate a preview of the item in HTML or download a PDF version.
    • Include blueprint tagging - if selected, the item blueprint section will be displayed at the end of the page. 
    • Include marksheet with "Count as" - if selected, each section of the marksheet will be displayed along with "Count as".
    • Show criterion details - if selected, the details for each schema criterion will be displayed.
    • Exclude criteria that are not tagged - if selected, only the tagged schema criterion will be displayed. 
    • Show schema value - if selected, the value of each schema will be displayed.
    • Show item information as table - if selected, the item information will be displayed in a table depending on the fields filled in (Question title, Patient name, Summary, Exam duration, Marking duration, Number of markers, Marksheet display). 
    • Include resources and notes - if selected, any resources attached will be displayed after the item. 

    Video and Audio resources cannot be played through the Item Preview but the resources are visible as attachments.

    

    • Exam preview - Allows you to view and interact with the item as it would appear on the exam day.
    • Preview as role - Select a role from the dropdown menu (Candidate, Examiner, Roleplayer, Marker, Observer, Admin).

  Click Export to confirm your selection and preview the item.

  

Video and Audio resources cannot be played through the Item Preview but the resources are visible as attachments.
