Marshals carry out an important role in any OSCE exam delivered using the iPad application. Using the dedicated iPad view, they can monitor the progress of the exam (including mark sheet submission), respond to and manage examiner help requests and even (in a marshal-controlled rounds style exam) stop and start the examining rounds.
In terms of setting up users as marshals, the user record is simply an examiner account with the marshal role added. This can be specified at the point of record creation or added later by amending the examiner record.
The risr/ assess system expects marshal allocations to be configured in a specific way. There are two points to remember:
- Every exam needs to have marshals added. Even if you don't plan to use the app to manage the exam, you will still need to add them in (we suggest generic marshal accounts for this purpose).
- Marshals must be allocated one per circuit (irrespective of whether this reflects the physical setup of your exam). One marshal receives one iPad with the exam data loaded per circuit.
During the process of creating an exam, you will need to schedule marshals per the rules described above. This is achieved by scheduling examiner accounts with the marshal role to the appropriate positions in the exam set up and is covered in the adding examiners article.
Once the exam is published, marshals access their dedicated view of the exam via the iPad. This is described in more detail in the Marshalling article.
