In order that the OSCE can run successfully, stations will usually need sets of instructions for the candidate and the examiner (and, optionally, the simulated patient). The OSCE item type has specific functionality that enables this documentation to be stored agains the item as appropriate.
There are two ways you can add these documents to items; either as an uploaded resource, or by using the built in what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) editor. Which method you choose will depend on your circumstances, however the advantage of using the built-in editor is that documents remain editable when stations are reviewed and updated. If you use uploaded documents these will need to be removed from the item and replaced if they undergo any editing.
Adding notes to the item
To add documentation using the WYSIWYG editor:

First navigate to the item and then the Item resources tab.
Click Add a notes.

Fill out the form fields as required

Resource type: Choose the appropriate resource type. There are four options:
- Candidate notes
- Examiner notes
- Marking notes for examiners
- Role player notes
- Resource name: An optional field, visible only to examiners and marshals in the iPad.
- Resource caption: An optional field visible to candidates taking a remote OSCE in the browser application.
- Show station title: Controls whether or not the station title and reference number is printed to the footer of the resource document.
- Text: The body of the document. Construct the body of your document using the WYSIWYG editor.
- Document: An option to instead upload a document. If both notes and a document are present, the notes take priority.
Adding a document via this method is different to adding a general resource to the item. Using this method the document is attached only to this item and does not appear in the resource bank.

Resource type: Choose the appropriate resource type. There are four options:

Click Save and continue editing.
Once saved the information you have input will be rendered into a PDF document.

The information can be edited by overtyping in the WYSIWYG field.

The information can be edited by uploading a new file.

Managing notes
As notes are added, they will appear on the item page under the resources tab.
There are several further options:
- Download: Downloads the individual file to your machine
- Edit: Edit the document either inhe WYSIWYG editor or by uploading a new file.
- Remove: Completely remove the resource from the item.
- Export notes PDF: Exports a composite document including all notes present on the item.
